Agricultural growth in Poncitlan, Jalisco

The municipality of Poncitlán, Jalisco, has experienced remarkable growth in its agricultural and livestock production under the administration of Mayor Arturo Israel Ascencio Gómez. In 2023, the value of agricultural production reached 1.2736 billion pesos, representing 1.1% of the state total, while livestock production amounted to 447.9 million pesos, equivalent to 0.3% of the state total.

In his third government report, presented in September 2024, Ascencio Gómez highlighted an investment of 5.8 million pesos in the rehabilitation of rural roads, recognizing agriculture as one of Poncitlán’s main economic activities. This investment has facilitated access to local and regional markets, improving the competitiveness of local producers.

Additionally, the mayor has emphasized the importance of education as a driver of economic development. During his administration, free internet access points were installed in communities such as Santa Cruz el Grande, San Sebastián, Cuitzeo, and San Pedro Itzicán in collaboration with RED Jalisco. More than 45 million pesos were allocated for improvements in schools at all levels in locations such as San Pedro Itzicán and the municipal seat. Furthermore, over 16,000 school supply kits were distributed as part of the "Mochilas con útiles" program, and school transportation was implemented.

Ascencio Gómez's administration has prioritized transparency and accountability in the management of public resources. Over the three years of his administration, nearly 700 million pesos have been invested to create opportunities in the municipality, with a focus on education and public works. These investments aim to lay the foundation for a prosperous future in Poncitlán, providing opportunities for its residents and fostering unity as a key pillar for the municipality's transformation.

Poncitlán's economic growth is also reflected internationally. In 2023, the municipality's international sales amounted to $778,000, with standout products such as "Other Furniture and Parts," which reached $706,000 in exports. Although these figures represent a 92.4% decrease compared to the previous year, local authorities are implementing strategies to diversify export offerings and strengthen Poncitlán's presence in international markets.

The municipal administration has recognized the importance of binational collaboration between Mexico and the United States to drive local economic development. Links have been established with U.S. companies and organizations to promote investment in Poncitlán’s agro-industrial sector. These alliances aim to improve agricultural and livestock practices by incorporating cutting-edge technology and promoting training for local producers.

Additionally, job training and social participation programs have been implemented, contributing to rural families' economies through productive activities. So far, more than 2,500 people have participated in these activities, generating a positive impact in the municipality.

Investment in infrastructure has been another pillar of Ascencio Gómez’s administration. Streets, bridges, and public spaces have been rehabilitated in all the municipality’s delegations, improving residents’ quality of life and promoting local economic development. These projects have facilitated the transportation of goods and people, strengthening Poncitlán’s connectivity with other regions and enhancing its attractiveness for foreign investment.

Poncitlán’s livestock sector has experienced sustained growth, with production valued at 447.9 million pesos in 2023. This increase has been achieved through the implementation of sustainable practices and technical support for local producers. The diversification of livestock production has allowed Poncitlán to position itself as a regional benchmark, contributing to the supply of national and international markets.

The municipal administration has worked alongside educational institutions and research centers to drive innovation in the agricultural sector. Applied research projects have been developed to improve productivity and sustainability in agricultural and livestock activities. These initiatives have enabled local producers to adopt new technologies and practices, increasing their competitiveness in the global market.

Ascencio Gómez’s vision for the future includes the consolidation of Poncitlán as a prosperous and sustainable municipality, with a diversified economy and an educated and engaged society. To achieve this, investment in infrastructure, education, and technology will continue, along with strengthening binational relations that allow Poncitlán to integrate effectively into the global economy.

In summary, under the leadership of Arturo Israel Ascencio Gómez, Poncitlán has experienced significant development in its agricultural and livestock sectors, supported by strategic investments in infrastructure and education. The commitment to transparency and accountability in managing public resources has laid the foundation for a prosperous future, where binational collaboration with the United States plays a fundamental role in the municipality’s economic consolidation.
